A professional association representing equine veterinarians in the Province of Ontario.

Mission and History

Mission Statement

The OAEP is committed to the health and welfare of horses and to providing leadership within the equine community. The Association’s mission is to facilitate communication and collegiality among equine practitioners in Ontario, support continuing education for equine veterinarians, and provide a link between equine clinical practice, academia, industry, media, government and the community.

History

The OAEP began in 1980 when a group of progressive equine practitioners began to meet to share ideas and to bring in speakers for continuing education. The first annual meeting was held in 1982. From its humble beginnings years ago, the OAEP has now grown into an association that represents equine practitioners from all segments of the equine profession, including racing (Thoroughbred, Standardbred and Quarter Horse), sport horse, pleasure, breeding, service horses and backyard pets. Members include practitioners from across Ontario who have one thing in common: a love for the horse. If you have any questions or concerns that you would like to submit to the OAEP, please contact us at equinepractitioners@gmail.com.
